Job Purpose

The Business Manager will manage the day-to-day financial systems and general business operations of the Global Scripture Ministries area, in accordance with policies and procedures established by the American Bible Society. The Business Manager will also provide a variety of technical, strategic, administrative and project management support to the Director of Operations. Routine responsibilities are to be carried out with a high-level of professionalism in accordance with office practice and procedure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Operations in the management of the GSM financials by working closely with key departments/units within GSM, Corporate Services, and DMR on the following:
    • Compilation of seasonalized/detailed departmental budgets
    • Data analyses, extraction, input, and correction
    • Review for accuracy and scanning of all GSM payment requests and income (i.e., Church Fund or Ministry Networks gifts)
    • Vetting of organizational chargebacks (GSI fees, telecom, tech refresh, insurance, etc.)
    • Alignment of designated income (Fund Accounting) relating to various ministry initiatives/programs/projects, which include account/project ID setups
    • Research pertaining to budget variances/inquiries, vendor payments, and erroneous budget postings ➢ Journal entries, accruals, budget reconciliations
    • Management of GSM Area Payment Request Database
  • Generate monthly and ad hoc reports relating to budgets, project accounting, expenditures, Scripture distribution and/or inventory, restricted gifts, endowments, income, etc., using Great Plains, FRX, PIDI and Crystal.
  • Manage the processing of the GSM Amex Purchasing Card expenses using the Concur expense processing system. This function involves reviewing all charged expenses for policy compliance and budget number accuracy, as well as following up with the purchasers for additional information/documentation.
  • Oversees, guides, and coordinates cell phone/wireless card purchases, plans, and invoice processing to ensure correct, timely, and appropriate management.
  • In consultation with the Director of Operations, authorize and process the purchase of all business stationeries, supplies and apparatus.
  • Monitor/review all GSM related purchase orders for production of Scripture resources and ensure that all costs relating to these purchase orders are applied correctly to the appropriate project cost centers/accounts.
  • Facilitate the compilation and approval of all GSM carryover vacation days the end of the calendar year.
  • Act as the liaison with the Facilities and ITS departments.
  • Implement departmental/organizational policies and procedures, and assist in the establishment and redesign of new internal processes.
  • Project Management - Provide leadership and maintain comprehensive project plans for all active special projects.

Essential Skills: Minimum qualifications individual must possess when entering position

  • Proven knowledge and experience with all aspects of a budget planning process.
  • Working knowledge of standard business/operations management and accounting practices.
  • Collegial working style, with the ability to effectively interact with senior management.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical and research skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral), organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Great Plains Accounting Software.
  • Advanced training in various Windows/Microsoft applications, especially in Excel.
  • Strong commitment to enthusiastically support the mission and vision of ABS and its Core Values without apology or impartiality.

Education and/or Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 5 years of financial/business management experience.

Working Conditions

Located in New York, NY. Requires minimal travel.
