Job Purpose

Support ABS and DMR’s key strategies of:

  • Building life-long relationships with passionate Christ-followers and ministry supporters, and
  • Informing and inspiring current and prospective donors by delivering targeted events and communications through an integrated mix of channels.

This support manifests itself primarily in helping the Philanthropic Advisors to identify and engage major donors and prospects. Beyond that, however, the Donor Engagement team will seek and create opportunities for other donors to draw closer to the ministry of the American Bible Society.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage Donors: Mobilize passionate Christ-followers to become “activists$rdquo; in the global Bible cause as well as ministry supporters by stimulating some or all of the following shared experiences:
    • Vision Trips. Plan and organize group tours of 10-15 current and prospective major/rising donors to key front-line ministry sites, both domestic and international, involving participants in direct ministry experience.
    • National Awareness. Research and plan ABS participation/sponsorship in one or more national events that raises awareness of ABS and promotes our international and domestic ministries. Coordinate this activity with Global Scripture Ministries and with our Marketing Department.
    • Global Bible Summit. Plan and organize a bi-annual assembly of selected current and prospective major/rising donors, allowing participants to experience the mission and ministry of ABS and seek to generate significant financial support.
    • Regional Forums. Plan, organize and implement a series of regional forums for 75-300 existing and prospective donors that will raise awareness of ABS and inspire their engagement in ABS ministries and activities.
    • Local Briefing Sessions. Plan and organize educational events for 25-75 prospective donors and Bible cause activists to brief them on projects targeting a region or addressing a specific theme and to invite their participation.
    • Virtual Ministry Trips. Plan and organize intimate gatherings of 8-15 prospective Bible cause activists in homes, churches, or other appropriate venues, introducing them to the work of the American Bible Society by taking them to the front lines of Bible ministry through live encounters with front-line workers and through online tools created by our Marketing Department.
    • Donor Recognition Program. Design and implement a donor recognition program that will recognize the unique breadth and depth of the existing ABS donor base and thereby encourage ongoing giving.
    • Donor Research. Conduct ongoing research into the ABS donor database to identify prospects for increased giving and for planned gifts.
  • Department Administration. Provide excellent leadership to Division of Development, Marketing and Research and the Donor Engagement Department.
    • Participate in DMR Leadership Team to contribute to development of Division Strategy and ensure appropriate execution.
    • Develop and execute against Annual Operations Plan and Budget for Department.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise all staff assigned to the Donor Engagement Department.

Education and/or Training

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
  • Master's degree in business or non-profit administration strongly preferred

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Three or more years of fundraising experience, working directly with donors in ways similar to those required for this position
  • Strong strategic and planning skills

  • Experience in and knowledge of non-profit development activities
  • Knowledge of fund development technology
  • Experience in promoting domestic and international ministries
