Job Purpose

The Director of Operations will serve as the operations arm of the Global Scripture Ministries area by overseeing and directing all of its operational and financial systems/activities and ensuring disciplined execution of GSM's strategic/operating plan, in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the American Bible Society (ABS). The Director of Operations will also build on and improve the already existing collaboration and coordination between the GSM area and the ABS’ Corporate Finance Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Executive Vice President of GSM as needed.
  • Oversee GSM's financial operation including budget development, fiscal control, and financial reporting/statements, in collaboration with GSM leadership and ABS Finance Department; advise department heads of any budget issues; apply budget adjustments as appropriate; and serve as the technical and procedural expert regarding various budget matters.
  • Participate as a member of the Ministry Area Leadership Team in strategic planning, coordination and delegation of projects, tasks, and responsibilities that are assigned to the area.
  • Develop/control the budget for the GSM Operations unit and approve financial transactions relating to purchased goods and services, while demonstrating responsible stewardship.
  • Review Large Gifts reports and gift acknowledgements, inform GSM Departments of any large gifts received for their respective initiatives/programs/projects, and ensure proper fulfillment and reporting of restricted endowments.
  • Develop, reengineer, audit, and streamline GSM processes for effectiveness of internal controls, ministry programs, and overall operations.
  • Oversee the development of annual performance management materials that guide staff performance and evaluation.
  • Provide leadership/direction for the GSM Intranet site, as well as the preservation and distribution of information/data/materials pertaining to the work of GSM.
  • Oversee the periodic review of GSM vendor and partner agreements for proper alignment with the area strategy and budget.
  • Handle confidential/sensitive matters concerning GSM and the American Bible Society, including personnel related matters.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders and areas/departments within GSM and across the organization, while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and ensuring that work is carried out cooperatively and that the core values of the Society are continually upheld.
  • Serve on cross functional teams.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership/supervision to two Operations staff: Business Manager and Information Manager.

Education and/or Training

  • Bachelor's Degree (Masters Degree preferred) in Accounting/Business Administration, Operations Management, or Finance. CPA with initial experience in auditing, especially not-for-profit organizations, combined with operational/financial management of not-for-profit organizations would be desirable.
  • Minimum 6-9 years of financial/operations management experience.
  • Past success working in a collaborative, team environment across functional and departmental lines.

Working Conditions

Located in New York, NY. Requires minimal travel.
