FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE     New York, NY,
July 8, 2008

The American Bible Society mourns the loss of John Marks Templeton, 95, who died on Tuesday, July 8. Sir John, a world-renowned investor and philanthropist, was part of the Board of Trustees of the American Bible Society for many years, eventually being cited as an emeritus member.

Mr. Templeton was noted for his Christian faith and his attention to a lifestyle that spoke clearly of faith and the power of religious belief to change lives and the world. Dr. Dennis Dickerson, Chair of the Bible Society Board of Trustees, says, "John Templeton was a mentor to millions because he put his faith into action. The Bible Society benefited from his wisdom and deep commitment to the Bible cause. We mourn his loss with his family and with people around the world who value decency and honor. His was a life well-lived for the Lord."

Mr. Templeton and his family will be remembered by the prayer team at the Bible Society.
