While income and cash flow statements change according to outside circumstances, the Word of God remains the same. Economic meltdown has been predicted by economists, preachers, professors and even conspiracy theorists long before today. In most cases, their predictions were only partially fulfilled. After repeated cycles of failed or imperfect predictions, the mind can become skeptical and weary of so-called "prophecies".
The "Good News" for today is that the prophesies relating to Jesus Christ's crucifixion, death, and resurrection have indeed, been fulfilled. My favorite accounts of these monumental events are found in the Gospel of St. John. From throwing dice for Jesus' robe, to quenching His thirst, to the piercing of His side -- it was all predicted and all fulfilled.
When Simon Peter ran to find Jesus' tomb empty, the Bible says,
"At that time Peter and the other disciple did not know that the Scriptures said Jesus would rise to life." John 20.9 (CEV)
Today the American Bible Society has been entrusted to make these very Scriptures available to everyone in a language they can understand and at a price they can afford so that they may experience its life-changing message.
After the resurrection, the Apostle John writes this about the Holy Scriptures:
"Jesus worked many other miracles for his disciples and not all of them are written in this book. But these are written so that you will put your faith in Jesus as the Messiah and the Son of God. If you have faith in him, you will have true life." John 20.30,31(CEV)
This Easter, may the enduring truth of the Bible be a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path.
