The Four Gospel Stories

The story of Jesus¢¯¿½¯¿½ suffering and death is sometimes called the Passion of Jesus. This story, along with the story of Jesus¢¯¿½¯¿½ resurrection or rising from the dead, is found at the end of four writings in the New Testament called Gospels. These four Gospels belong to the sacred Scriptures of the Christian Church, and tell about the life of Jesus, particularly focusing on his teaching, and miracles. Christian churches remember the suffering and death of Jesus on a day called Good Friday; and on Easter they celebrate Jesus¢¯¿½¯¿½ resurrection. If you would like to dig deeper into the story of Jesus¢¯¿½¯¿½ Passion, Death, and Resurrection, you can read the full stories in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, presented here in English and Spanish as an online resource. You may read each Gospel story separately, in either English or Spanish; or, you may compare and contrast the episodes as related in the different Gospels. You may have seen the Bible film that Hollywood actor-director Mel Gibson has recently produced, The Passion of the Christ. This is a powerful film and artistic experience about the last twelve hours of Jesus¢¯¿½¯¿½ life. Because the film combines the Gospels¢¯¿½¯¿½ four Passion and Death stories into one film, you may use this online resource to discover how each of the New Testament Gospels tells the same story in slightly different ways. You will also discover what the Gospels have to teach about what God did to raise Jesus from death, events not fully related in the film. Our prayers and good wishes go with you as you engage Jesus in the film and the Gospels!
