As the American Bible Society prepares to celebrate the 192nd anniversary of its founding, we are honored to partner with the dedicated supporters and devoted staff to fulfill Christ’s Great Commission. From the moment the Bible Society was established, in 1816, the founders shared a single-minded mission that embraced the whole world: to make the Bible available to every man, woman and child in a language and format each can understand, so all may experience its life-changing message. That mission continues today, even as we reach out to a changing world. Industrial and technological advances and population increases have opened up new avenues to reach many more people with the gospel, more rapidly and efficiently.

• We created the Global Scripture Fund to connect motivated donors with the programs, projects and ministries that are making a significant difference in the world today. Thanks to Bible Society supporters like you, through this Fund, in 2006, more than 3 million people in dozens of countries received the Scriptures. We examine each program and report back to the donor the potential spiritual return on a proposed “investment.”

• As the pace of daily life increases (seemingly exponentially), we provide busy Christians with Scripture tools they can access at the click of a mouse. Our online Bible Resource Center offers articles, Bible study guides, Bible helps for Scripture reading, discussions about popular culture in relation to faith and more.

• Throughout fiscal 2005-2006, we also reached the hurting, such as survivors of Hurricane Katrina, providing more than 1.5 million Scriptures in English and Spanish to churches and ministries working with those affected. We collaborated with Christian disaster relief organizations, such as Convoy of Hope and The Salvation Army.

• Last year we presented our Lifetime Achievement award to the Rev. Dr. Billy Graham.

• We sponsored a variety of media initiatives, including the Christian Music Awards and the Movieguide® Faith and Values Awards, and we supported feature films such as Nativity Story, One Night With the King (based on the book of Esther) and The End of the Spear.

• As stewards of God’s resources, we guarantee that all your financial support — every dollar — will be used to carry out the ministry for which it was given. We ensure that no contributions given for ministry will be used to cover administration, fundraising or other infrastructure expenses.
