Since the founding of the American republic, the American Bible Society and The Record, America's second oldest continually published magazine,have played an integral role in promoting the gospel in American public life. As Ulysses S. Grant said, "To the influence of this book we are indebted for all our progress made in true civilization, and to this book we must look as our guide in the future." As we prepare to celebrate the 233rd anniversary of our nation's independence, we reflect on life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness - those attributes of freedom stated in the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
