Job Purpose:

In accordance with the policies and procedures established by the American Bible Society, the Manager of Communications & Operations (MCO) will serve as the communications, operations, and project and events logistics manager of Armed Services Ministry (ASM). This position will oversee the execution and continuous improvement of core operational functions in the areas of budgeting, reporting, strategic planning, partnerships, event management, communications, and logistics.  The MCO will assist the Vice President, U.S. Ministry Integration in reaching ASM’s goal of impacting the lives of Serviceman, Veterans, Military families, and churches by providing resources, communications, and training leading them into a habit of regular, intentional Bible engagement – thus producing transformation. Help foster an environment of continuous improvement and learning within the ASM team. The MCO is responsible for providing expert team support by building, developing, and maintaining strategic communications inside and outside American Bible Society, along with synchronizing and improving operating systems in support of American Bible Society’s strategy to move 3.7 million people along the Pathway of Scripture Engagement by 2021 and 100 million Americans actively engaging the Scriptures by 2026. These responsibilities are to be carried out with integrity, a high degree of professionalism, and the distinct purpose of advancing American Bible Society’s mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee strategic planning, budgeting, reporting, partnerships, coordination, communications, scheduling, event management, and management of projects, operations, logistics, tasks, and other responsibilities
  • Ensure that the Vice President of U.S. Ministry Integration is fully knowledgeable and updated on all activities 
  • Communicate on behalf of Armed Services Ministry to staff, Board members, leadership, and partners. This includes but is not limited to Messenger postings, publicity materials, ASM Briefings/News/Reports, the Record magazine along with other Financial Partner communications, ASM blogs/web sites/social media platforms/podcasts/webinars, other emerging channels of communication, and selected partners of ASM
  • Liaise on behalf of the Vice President of U.S. Ministry Integration with financial partners, ministry partners, prayer partners, other key stakeholders, and areas/departments within U.S. Ministry and across American Bible Society
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and ensure that work is carried out cooperatively and that the core values of American Bible Society are continually upheld
  • Manage the financial statements, budget development process, and financial operations of ASM with U.S. Ministry Integration and Finance; advise VP of any budget/financial issues; apply budget adjustments as appropriate; and serve as the procedural expert regarding various budget and financial matters
  • Support ASM with synchronization, contract management, communications, logistics, finance management, human resources, operational expertise, key project measurement, and coordination, and ensure that the Vice President’s decisions are properly implemented
  • Ensure that accurate ASM life-impact numbers are reported to appropriate sections for financial partners, Board members, and other U.S. Ministry leadership; produce ASM reports, correspondence, briefings, and presentation materials
  • Ensure that financial obligations and contributions are properly and accurately recorded
  • Coordinate logistics required for meetings, events, conferences, and appointments
  • Perform word processing and produce spreadsheets, slide presentations, graphs, and other materials as requested by the Vice President, U.S. Ministry Integration
  • Ensure compliance to American Bible Society’s policies
  • Handle special projects as requested by the Vice President
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and/or Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3+ years of project management experience
  • Military background
  • Deep understanding of the military culture
  • Proven track record

Working Conditions:

  • Standard Work Hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM; at times workload may require late nights
  • Moderate travel to attend major ASM functions and events
