Around the world, 1 in 7 people have experienced the pain and horror of a traumatic event. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the country with the highest rate of sexual violence in the world, the rate of trauma is much higher. Trauma is a barrier to engaging with the Bible.
Hope Rising documents transformed lives of trauma survivors who have found hope and healing through the Bible’s message of forgiveness and restoration. Watch the trailer below, and explore this site to learn how you can become an advocate for trauma healing and restoration even in your own community.

ABOUT TRAUMA HEALING
THE AMERICAN BIBLE
Since 1816, American Bible Society has been engaging people with the life-changing message
of God's Word. Its mission is to make the Bible available to every person in a language and format
each can understand and afford, so all people may experience its life-changing message.
We work alongside ministry partners, Christian churches and national Bible societies (the United
Bible Societies) to share God's Word both in the United States and around the globe.
American Bible Society has a history of bringing the Bible into areas of conflict and trauma and
removing barriers to an encounter with the Bible. If the obstacle is language, we provide
translations. If the obstacle is price or availability, we provide resources. For many people
the obstacle is trauma. For those people, we work to provide practical care and address
questions like, “Where was God when I was raped?” so hurting people can begin to engage
with the message of the Bible.
