As a woman of faith, you’ve experienced the power of God’s Word in your own personal story. But what would it look like if you could zoom out and see the broader impact through the lens of innovative, Bible-focused research?
We’re excited to share new insights from our State of the Bible research that can help you track the Bible’s impact on our lives—and even inspire you to take the next step in your own journey with God’s Word!
Our Foundation for Flourishing
There’s no better place to find evidence of the Bible’s value than in the Bible itself.
Scripture’s vision for our lives is marked by language of abundance, purpose, and hope. But these blessings aren’t our source of a flourishing life. Instead, we find the true treasure of Scripture in the living Word of God: Jesus Christ. Through our relationship with him, we have access to more than we could ask or imagine.
Consider these familiar verses:
- Our source of physical life: “For in him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28)
- Our source of spiritual life: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)
- Our source of blessing and purpose: “God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:8)
- Our source of eternal hope: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
These truths are powerful—and probably close to your heart. But what could the measurable, real-world effects of a life lived in the Word tell us about the Bible’s value for ourselves and for others?
The Difference the Bible Makes
American Bible Society exists to help all people experience the life-changing message of the Bible. We help churches and individuals find the best way forward with insights from our annual U.S.-based State of the Bible research.
This year, the research is revealing a powerful story: women who consistently engage with God’s Word report higher levels of flourishing, lower levels of anxiety, and a deeper sense of purpose and generosity. In other words, the Bible isn’t just a spiritual book—it’s the key to a whole and healthy life.
Here are four key findings from this year’s brand-new research:
59% of women who consistently engage with God’s Word flourish.
Fifty-nine percent of Scripture-engaged women experience high levels of flourishing—which includes core factors like our sense of meaning and purpose—compared to just 26% of women who don’t regularly engage with the Bible. Just like the Bible compares itself to precious treasure (Psalm 19), the data suggests that spending regular time in God’s Word can lead to a spiritually richer and fuller life.
Gen Z and Millennial women who regularly engage with the Bible report lower levels of stress and anxiety.
Gen Z and Millennial women experience some of the highest stress levels, with an average stress score of 10.9 (compared to 9.1 for all women). However, those who regularly engage with the Bible report lower stress (9.8) than their disengaged peers (11.2). While anxiety will likely remain a challenge, especially for younger Americans, many who cultivate a deep relationship with God through his Word find real, measurable comfort and peace.
Bible engagement sparks generosity.
A remarkable 86% of Bible-engaged women donate to a church or charity, compared to 75% of women who are open to the Bible but not regularly engaging with it and 51% of women who are Bible disengaged. The more people encounter the Bible’s message of generosity, the more they reflect that generosity in their own lives.
Half of all women are curious about the Bible—but many need a starting point.
Half of all women (51%) are curious about what the Bible says, and a majority of Christian women (69%) wish they read the Bible more. This year, Bible use among Millennial women jumped 10 percentage points—from 28% in 2024 to 38% in 2025. Even more exciting, Gen Z and Millennial women saw a 49% increase in Scripture engagement from 2024 to 2025. However, many people still struggle to know where to start. Even one in four Christian women say they’re not sure where to begin—signaling an opportunity to come alongside women in your life as they take steps to engage with God’s Word.
Your Next Step
Now that you’ve explored some of the top insights from State of the Bible, consider how they could help direct your own journey with the Bible. Whether you’re seeking to deepen your faith, make a difference in your family, church, or community, or learn more about the Bible’s impact on our lives, there’s a next step waiting for you!
Start a Bible reading plan.
In partnership with Women Doing Well, we created two Bible reading plans designed to take you deeper into God’s Word:
- Identity in Christ: Discover your God-given identity by exploring your relationship with Christ.
- Scarcity & Abundance: Shift your mindset by looking at life through the lens of Scripture.
Just three days long, these plans are perfect to add to your weekly routine. Read alone, with your family, or invite a woman you know to read along with you. When you’re done, find more free Bible study resources at AmericanBible.org/Engage.
Memorize Scripture for times of anxiety and stress.
If you struggle with anxiety or stress, choose new verse or passage of Scripture to memorize and meditate on when you feel overwhelmed or discouraged. Look for the ways that God’s promises are evident in your life.
Be a trusted companion for other women as they go deeper into God’s Word.
Finally, keep an eye out for how you can help the women around you take the next step with the Bible. Invite a younger woman to study the Bible with you, encourage a new believer to explore God’s Word, or share the gospel with friends who haven’t yet explored the Bible’s message for themselves. As you walk alongside other women, notice how your own relationship with God flourishes as you live in his Word!
