For many Soldiers like Captain Leo Martin*, the realities of war are part of every moment of every day. The threat of death and loss of life is always near. Over 2,000 Service Members died, and over 20,000 were wounded in action during the War in Afghanistan. This brought immeasurable loss and pain to loved ones at home while triggering constant stress among active-duty Service Members.

The stress of war brings out many intense negative emotions in people. As Captain Martin, who served in Afghanistan, says, “Not having any time off or away from people is difficult. We work 12-hour days every day, and people get grumpy and snap all the time. It’s stressful being here away from family.”

But through the generosity of our generous partners, Captain Martin received his very own Bible to bring him comfort. As Captain Martin says, “We work long days and have to share rooms, so finding ways to relax and de-stress is hard. Reading the Bible helps me with that stress.”

While in Afghanistan, he chose to keep the Bible close to him, on his desk, and he liked to read it most while at work. “When I read that Bible, it does comfort me,” he says. “The good book is the only thing keeping me happy over here. Thank you for sending the warrior Bibles.”

Through the generous support of our friends, we are sharing the peace and hope of Jesus with our brave Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Guardians deployed around the world through the Bibles you help provide.
