Your bank account is empty. You’ve checked under all the couch cushions for extra change, picked up extra shifts at work and put off buying anything that you didn’t absolutely need. But, until the next pay check, you are in a pretty tight place.

It’s at times like these that you know that you need help and encouragement from God.

Throughout Scripture, hard times are repeatedly where God shows up. Whether it’s to the Israelites when they were down to their very last provisions in the desert (Exodus 16), or when a crowd of people were in no man’s land without food (Mark 6:30-44), God comes into the middle of the scenario to provide.

Reflect on and pray the following words of Scripture in the midst of your difficult financial circumstance.

  1. God, be with me.
“Be determined and confident. Do not be afraid of them. Your God, the Lord himself, will be with you. He will not fail you or abandon you.”— Deuteronomy 31:6 (GNTD)
  2. God, supply my needs.
“And with all his abundant wealth through Christ Jesus, my God will supply all your needs. To our God and Father be the glory forever and ever! Amen.”— Philippians 4:19, 20 (GNTD)
  3. God, give me guidance.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.”—Proverbs 3:5, 6 (GNTD)
  4. God, be my safe place.
“Whoever goes to the Lord for safety, whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty, can say to him, ‘You are my defender and protector. You are my God; in you I trust.’”—Psalm 91:1, 2 (GNTD)
  5. God, help me honor you with my finances.
“So do not start worrying: ‘Where will my food come from? or my drink? or my clothes?’ (These are the things the pagans are always concerned about.) Your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things. Instead, be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things.” Matthew 6:31-33 (GNTD)
