Sometimes minor incidents can turn the best mornings into the worst afternoons. Has this ever happened to you?
Maybe you wake up feeling rested, take your time getting ready and get only green lights on your way to work—all the makings of a positive, productive day. But then—less than an hour into your morning—your boss calls you into her office and asks you to redo an assignment. Already busy with projects, you begrudgingly return to your desk and prepare to stay late.
Then, while running errands at lunch, you find a $20 ticket on your windshield. How did I miss the loading zone sign? you ask yourself. And then, after getting home from a long day of work, you realize you left your wallet at the office. You furiously drive back, wondering when the day will finally end.
When I have days like this, it’s hard for me to enjoy anything. I let the little things consume my joy and give up on the day before it’s even over. If your day feels rotten and wasted, there is hope. God never promises us all sunshine and good days, but he can bring us peace in the midst of our most anxiety-inducing moments. If we dig into God’s Word, we can find calm in the middle of a frustrating day.
If you’re in the midst of a no good, terrible day today, crack open your Bible and meditate on the hope found in God’s Word. These six Bible verses will get you started:
God wants to take your worries.
Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. — Matthew 11:23 (GNTD)
God is with you when everything is out of control.
We are often troubled, but not crushed; sometimes in doubt, but never in despair; there are many enemies, but we are never without a friend; and though badly hurt at times, we are not destroyed. — 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (GNTD)
God can give you peace when you’re anxious.
Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid. — John 14:27 (GNTD)
God will defend and protect you.
Leave your troubles with the Lord, and he will defend you; he never lets honest people be defeated. —Psalm 55:22 (GNTD)
God will give you strength and patience.
May you be made strong with all the strength which comes from his glorious power, so that you may be able to endure everything with patience. And with joy give thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to have your share of what God has reserved for his people in the kingdom of light. —Colossians 1:11-12 (GNTD)
God wants to fill you with hope and joy.
May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit. —Romans 15:13 (GNTD)
