“The most difficult experience I have had in my life was to leave my family in Haiti,” says Edith. She migrated to the Dominican Republic to provide for her loved ones.

About a million Haitians like Edith have followed a similar path, hoping and praying for a better opportunity. They seek a place that’s free from dangerous political instability, extreme poverty, and natural disasters.

But living in
bateyes—poor settlements in the Dominican Republic—Haitians like Edith are finding things just as hard as they were back home. They lack the most basic necessities such as food, healthcare, running water, and electricity.

To help meet migrants’ needs, local churches are coming together to offer a helping hand—and at the same time, introduce Haitians to the God of all hope.

God Speaks Creole

Despite challenges of illiteracy and lack of access to Bibles, God’s Word is still reaching the eyes, ears, and hearts of Haitian migrants. Since the beginning of 2018, the JESUS film is being shown in Haitian Creole at selected bateyes in Santo Domingo. An audio device called a Proclaimer plays recordings of the New Testament in whatever language is needed. And small groups are meeting to discuss Scripture. This ministry approach,
known as End-to-End, invites people to see, hear, and experience God’s Word.

The goal was to touch the lives of 7,000 Haitian migrants—but praise God, more than 7,120 Haitians have already been reached with God’s Word! The church is growing. And the Haitian community is watching, listening, and reading the Bible.

Edith says, “My life has changed since I attended the Bible listening program, and upon receiving a Bible, I am a Christian! I am happy, I have my Bible, and I can listen to it.”

Please join us in praying for 21,000 Haitian migrants over the next three years to grow in their relationship with Jesus.

Let’s Pray Together

God, thank you for sharing your love with so many Haitians in the Dominican Republic. We pray that as they watch, read, and listen to God’s Word, their lives would be completely transformed by the power of your Holy Spirit. Give strength to the pastors, volunteers, and Bible Societies working to spread your Word.
