Acts contains the account of early Christians sharing their possessions and living in community. The fourth principle of Kwanzaa, cooperative economics, contains a similar message.

The fourth principle of Kwanzaa is Ujamaa (oo-JAH-mah) Cooperative Economics – To build and maintain our own stores, shops, and othr businesses and to profit together from them.

Community Harvest

God provides for all of us. When we share our gifts and work together in our communities, our schools and our places of worship, everyone benefits. God blesses our endeavors and multiplies the gifts.

God gives seed to farmers and provides everyone with food. He will increase what you have, so that you can give even more to those in need. You will be blessed in every way, and you will be able to keep on being generous. Then many people will thank God when we deliver your gift.

What you are doing is much more than a service that supplies God’s people with what they need. It is something that will make many others thank God. The way in which you have proved yourselves by this service will bring honor and praise to God. You believed the message about Christ, and you obeyed it by sharing generously with God’s people and with everyone else. Now they are praying for you and want to see you, because God used you to bless them so very much. Thank God for his gift that is too wonderful for words!

2 Corinthians 9:10-15

Pause and Reflect

Think of ways to support the efforts of your neighbors. These might include patronizing the new grocery store, bookstore, or other local business establishments; volunteering at the local school or for the neighborhood watch; or joining a new Bible study group at church. Whatever your contribution, it will surely be appreciated.
