From 15 to 71 years old, Rafael* spent his life “lost in alcohol.” Growing up in poverty, in a family of alcoholics, he had lost hope of ever breaking free. Day after day, he was drunk and, as he says, “out of my senses.”
Though Rafael had no relationship with God, when he learned the local Bible Society would be showing the JESUS Film at a church in his village in Ecuador, he decided to attend.
The movie impacted him deeply. “I watched with joy and shame over how sinful I was, but also with hope for the forgiveness of my God,” he explains. “Seeing the life of our Savior helped me leave everything bad in my life. I feel the love of God!”

Now, he shares, “I feel happy and thank God for rescuing me from alcohol. Every day, the Bible helps me change, to be calmer, to speak with love to my family, to have faith even through difficult times.”
