In order to reach native communities living in the most isolated, rural areas of Mexico, the Bible Society staff must travel on dangerous roads. Then, when the roads run out, they rely on boats, horses, donkeys, and hours of walking. Finally, they reach their destination, where groups of people are amazed that someone cares enough to bring them Bibles and audio Bibles in their heart language.
For the most part, these communities have been forgotten by the rest of the world. The people are extremely poor and shocked to receive such a valuable gift, which they eagerly share with their family and friends. Many, like Alejandro*, can’t read, so the audio Bibles are deeply treasured.
Alejandro abandoned his wife and children several years ago because he could not provide for them. After five years, he returned to them, but the shame of his mistake haunted him. He eventually received an audio Bible to listen to at home. His heart began to heal, and he realized, “Even as a sinner, God has never abandoned me. He has always been with me. There has been a change in my life thanks to the audio Bible. It helped us understand how our Lord came into the world to save us, not to condemn.”
