Yuhao* knows deep suffering ‑ first-hand. Fifty years ago during the darkest days of the Cultural Yuhao knows deep suffering fi rst-hand. Fifty years ago during the darkest days of the Cultural Revolution (1966 – 1976), Yuhao was thrown in prison. He was beaten, starved, and paraded through the streets to be mocked by the people in the village. He was kept in prison for two long years.
It was during that period that churches were closed and possession of a Bible could mean imprisonment.
Prior to Yuhao’s time in prison, a preacher from northern China visited his rural village. He stayed a few days, sharing the Gospel with Yuhao and his wife, as well as some neighbors who would gather in the evenings to hear the message. Many came to faith in Christ. Before he left, the preacher gave his last Bible to Yuhao.
In the months that followed, fellow believers in the village came together to worship, pray, and read that one precious Bible. However, Yuhao was ultimately arrested and his Bible confiscated. After Yuhao was released from prison, he lost everything, including his dearly loved Bible. Even so, the small group of believers soon began to gather once again, praying and worshiping together.
Recently, through the generous gifts of American Bible Society donors, Yuhao was given a brand-new Chinese Bible by the church. And what’s more – all the believers he prayed and worshiped with also received Bibles of their own.
Yuhao beamed and shared, “It is difficult to grasp that where once we only had ONE Bible for the entire church, now each person is able to receive their very own Bible. It is a miracle.” We are so thankful for our generous financial partners for helping to make miracles happen for believers in China, and all over the world!
