Struggling to survive on about $1 a day, many in the West African nation of Togo face constant poverty and hunger.
Sadly, the hunger felt in their empty stomachs is matched only by the pain in their hearts — for physical and spiritual nourishment are equally as difficult to come by.
Growing up in one of Togo’s remote villages, Florence* knows this deep hunger firsthand.
As a child, she went to church with her grandmother. But because the Word of God was read in a language she didn’t fully understand, Florence was unable to grasp the meaning of the Scriptures she heard.
Then, one day, the Bible Society came to her village. They brought audio Bibles in Florence’s heart language of Kabiye, something that was only possible thanks to the generous support of our partners!
“Listening to the audio Bible in my language changed my life,” Florence says. “I used to hold grudges and would never forgive anyone. Now I understand the importance of forgiveness.” “I thank God for this Bible,” she exclaims. “Ever since we listened to it, my whole family are now Christians!”
Florence has also received her very first New Testament in her heart language, a gift from the Bible Society that has transformed her completely.
Thanks to the faithful generosity of our partners, we are helping bring the love of Jesus Christ to the men, women, and children of Togo who are desperate to know Him.
