Early this past weekend, conflict escalated in the Middle East after strikes against the leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran by the United States and Israel. Retaliatory strikes have impacted neighboring countries and led to the deaths of both soldiers and civilians, along with growing fear and insecurity among millions of people across the region.
Today, we turn to God’s Word as our anchor in troubled times. Even as we uphold the need for justice (Proverbs 21:15), we grieve the innocent lives lost in this conflict. In moments like this, followers of Jesus are invited to bring our hearts before God. Scripture invites us to lift our cries to the Lord, asking him to show mercy, protect the vulnerable, comfort the grieving, and guide leaders toward peace.
When faced with events beyond our control, we can turn to the one who rules over all things, restores what is broken, and promises to be a fortress for everyone who trusts in him (Psalm 91:1–2).
Today, we invite you to pray with us:
Pray for the protection of our military members serving in the Middle East.
Many brave American men and women are currently stationed in the Middle East, and at least three service members have reportedly lost their lives in the line of duty. Pray for God’s protection for all our military members who are on the front lines. Pray for the chaplains who serve with them, that they would be beacons of hope in dark times as they share the gospel. Pray for God’s comfort to surround the families of those service members who lost their lives. And pray for all the families of all military members serving, that they would experience God drawing near to them and surrounding them with comfort and strength during this difficult season.
The Lord will protect you and keep you safe from all dangers. The Lord will protect you now and always wherever you go. – Psalm 121:8 (CEV)
Pray for the safety of Bible Society staff and their families in the region.
As of now, we’re thankful that our Bible Society partners and their families in the region are safe. Pray with us for God’s continued protection and provision for them as they navigate this unpredictable time, especially as they continue their ministry work amid the unrest.
The Lord is a mighty tower where his people can run for safety. – Proverbs 18:10 (CEV)
Pray for wisdom for local, regional, and international leaders.
Scripture reminds us that all true wisdom comes from God (James 3:13-18). Pray with us that God would grant wisdom to leaders in the Middle East and international leaders as they make decisions that could bring an end to this conflict and prevent further harm. Pray that God would raise up those who will lead justly, and that he would thwart the plans of the wicked. Pray for leaders in local communities and Bible Societies as they navigate these difficult circumstances with discernment, courage, and grace.
If any of you need wisdom, you should ask God, and it will be given to you. – James 1:5 (CEV)
Pray for courage and endurance for those continuing ministry under pressure.
In times of unrest, people often turn to God and the hope found in his Word more than ever. Please join us in praying for Bible Society staff members and ministry partners in this region as they continue to share the hope of Jesus with others, faithfully and courageously, despite great challenges. Pray that God would open doors that have previously been closed and pray that his Kingdom would be built through the faithful work of his people.
I’ve commanded you to be strong and brave. Don’t ever be afraid or discouraged! I am the Lord your God, and I will be there to help you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9 (CEV)
Pray for peace and a swift end to the conflict.
Throughout the Word of God, Christians are instructed to live peaceably with others. Even in our broken world, we should continually pray and strive to fulfill this calling. Pray for the protection of the innocent men, women, and children in harm’s way. Pray for their strength to endure this difficult time, for God’s mercy in preserving lives, and for lasting peace.
Pray that our LORD will make us strong and give us peace. – Psalm 29:11 (CEV)
