Bakari* is 101 years old. He lives with his daughter in a small village in Kenya, where he still makes a living weaving baskets.

What is more amazing, however, is the fact that Bakari accepted Jesus as his Savior in 1942 after a missionary shared the Gospel with him and gave him a small Scripture booklet. But in all the decades since, Bakari has never had a Bible.

That changed last year, thanks to the faithful generosity of partners like you!

Bakari was thrilled to finally listen to God’s Word in his heart language. “I am not literate,” he shares. “I’ve never set foot in a classroom. This Bible now gives me wisdom about life.”

Bakari received a type of audio Bible called a Torch, which combines a flashlight, lantern, and audio Bible into one versatile, solar-powered device. It is especially useful in countries where Christian persecution is a threat, since most people mistake it for an ordinary flashlight.

In some regions of Kenya, Christian churches have been bombed while believers have been persecuted, rejected by their families and communities, or even killed for their faith.

With his new Bible in hand, Bakari says, “This teaches me the history of creation . . . how people were in the beginning. People who have found me listening to this audio Bible always ask me where they can get one.”

Thank you! You serve such a vital role in ensuring that people in even the most difficult, remote, and impoverished areas of the world can know the hope of Jesus in the Bible.
