Life can seem daunting for any teenager, but circumstances in Maria’s life left her deeply discouraged and hopeless.
Maria lives in an impoverished seaside community in Central America where there is no electricity, no paved roads, and no public transportation. She used to walk three miles to school every day but eventually dropped out, explaining, “I did not see a way to improve my life.”
That changed the day a local church invited everyone from Maria’s village to watch the JESUS Film. “I felt joyful because Jesus and His disciples spoke our language, Miskitu,” she recalls. “Through the film, I could understand His immense love.” Maria accepted Jesus as her Savior that day — and gratefully received her very first Bible.
Now, Maria joyfully shares the hope she has for the future: “I have dreams and goals. I want to become a nurse to help my community. I know that by reading the Bible, I will find the best advice for my life.” Expressing her deep gratitude, she adds, “May God bless the donors who made it possible for me to receive the Bible freely in my hands.”
