Imagine living without clean water, reliable electricity, and many other basic services. This is reality for many living in the slums of Cameroon.

But despite these tough conditions, there is a sense of excitement in these slums. What is the cause of this excitement? God’s Word.

Day and night many Cameroonians are listening to Scriptures and then discussing them with one another. And God is responding to their hunger to read his Word and apply it to their lives.

Shamalia Snipe, a member of American Bible Society’s Mission Global team, travelled to Cameroon to see firsthand the impact God’s Word is having in that nation. She wrote:

I was blessed by the many testimonies of lives changed. One girl shared that she had malaria for two months and could not afford to go to the hospital but as she listened to God’s Word and believed, she was healed.

“One man left his wife but as he listened to God’s Word, he forgave his wife and brought her back home.

“One man talked about consulting diviners for guidance but came to realize he can only serve one God, the one who knows the plans for him. There was testimony after testimony of how people believed God’s Word, applied it and transformation occurred.

I am encouraged in my own faith and reminded of the power of God’s Word.”

We are encouraged to hear how God’s Word is changing lives across Cameroon. Let’s give God thanks for lives being healed and transformed!

Prayer of Praise:

God, we give you praise for the freedom, joy, and healing many are experiencing as they read Scripture. We pray many more will have the opportunity to read the Bible and experience its life-giving words in Cameroon and across the nations.
