Grandma Hendrina, aged 72, lives in the district of Marowijne-Albina in Suriname. Her eldest daughter became addicted to drugs, so she’s been taking care of her 10 grandchildren. Grandma Hendrina was having a hard time. She felt overwhelmed and couldn’t handle the care.
Then Grandma Hendrina received an audio device called a proclaimer from the Baptist Church that also helps with the care of the grandchildren. The proclaimer plays Scripture in Aukan, her native language. Grandma Hendrina listened to it daily. And it filled her with peace! She drew strength from listening to God’s Word. Now Grandma Hendrina prays that God may give her a long life to take care of her grandchildren. She also prays that God will intervene in the life of her daughter.
Hope through God’s Word
In life’s toughest moments, God’s Word offers hope. That’s why Suriname Bible Society wants to reach as many people with God’s Word. In partnership with Faith Comes By Hearing and local churches, Suriname Bible Society launched the End-to-End ministry to make God’s Word available in a language all can understand and relate to. End-to-End has three components:
- See the JESUS film in the mother tongue language of the audience
- Hear the New Testament on a Proclaimer
- Experience the life-changing impact of God’s Word through discipleship in local churches
From 2009-2016, more than 4,000 people have watched the JESUS film and 1,500 listening groups with more than 8,000 people have listened weekly to the New Testament on a Proclaimer. From 2017 until today, there have been more than 960 listening groups in different areas of Suriname.
Praise God! Surinamese people are hearing the life-giving messages found in Scripture. And like Grandma Hendrina, it has given them hope. Your prayers can help this ministry expand so that more Surinamese people can experience life in Jesus. Will you pray with us?
Let’s Pray Together
God, we thank you that thousands of people in Suriname now know the love of Jesus. We pray for even more opportunities to share the gospel of Jesus in Suriname. We also pray for open hearts as people watch the JESUS film and participate in listening groups.
