Sometimes, heartbreak happens all at once: a messy breakup; a sudden death; a severed friendship.
Other times, heartbreak feels like it will last forever: a loved one who struggles with sickness for years; a child who leaves the faith and cuts off all ties; a family member who slowly distances themselves from you over what started as a simple disagreement.
Whether your heartbreak is fresh or has been with you for decades, the lingering pain of rejection and grief can feel impossible to bear.
In Scripture, we see that God understands your pain. He doesn’t want you to suffer alone. Instead, he made a way for you to experience healing—not only from your heartbreak, but also from sin and death. Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we can receive true restoration:
We are healed by the punishment he suffered,
made whole by the blows he received.
Isaiah 53:5b GNT
When you face heartbreak, your heavenly Father invites you to turn to his promises in Scripture and find words of comfort and peace. Here are four verses that offer God’s comfort for broken hearts.
God promises to be near to you in moments of heartbreak.
The LORD is near to those who are discouraged;
he saves those who have lost all hope.
Psalm 34:18 GNT
God promises to be your strength through difficult times.
My mind and my body may grow weak,
but God is my strength;
he is all I ever need.
Psalm 73:26 GNT
God promises to help you through all your troubles.
Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ, the merciful Father, the God from whom all help comes! He helps
us in all our troubles, so that we are able to help others who have all kinds
of troubles, using the same help that we ourselves have received from God.2 Corinthians 1:3-4 GNT
God promises that his eternal love will be waiting for you every morning.
The LORD’s unfailing love and mercy still continue,
Fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise.
Lamentations 3:22-23 GNT
