He heals the brokenhearted
And binds up their wounds.
Psalm 147:3 (NKJV)
For many, home is a place of comfort, warmth, and beautiful memories. But not everyone has that experience.
So often, families are pulled apart by challenges that feel insurmountable. Parents separate or divorce; family members endure constant conflict, shocking tragedies, or unmet expectations. The home we long for—a place of safety and security—can become a place of hurt and hostility instead.
If this is your experience, you aren’t alone. Whether your family was shattered by divorce, broken by abuse, or pulled apart by difficult relationships, this type of hurt is a heavy burden to bear. What happens when you grow weary of loving your family members? Or when you lose hope that you can ever experience healing and reconciliation?
The Bible offers countless promises for our lives. But sometimes, these promises feel too small for the struggles that broken families face. When you’re longing for the closeness and intimacy of family or wishing that you could somehow escape yours, the promise that God is with us in our suffering might not feel like enough.
God knows that our hearts can sometimes become overwhelmed by the brokenness we experience in our world. But his promises extend far beyond mere presence. Instead, God promises to be our healer, skillfully and lovingly wrapping our wounds in his love. In Psalm 147, we read one of God’s most precious promises for those who feel like their hearts are shattered. He tells us that he will heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds—even those wounds that are invisible. This truth can help us rejoice, even in our suffering.
If you’re mourning your family experience or praying for your relationship with family members to change, spend some time today meditating on Scripture. Notice how God offers healing to those who cry out to him. Trust that he will work something good out of even your most difficult moments. And give your entire family to him, relying on him to restore your brokenness.
