A few months ago,
we asked you to pray for Reviving the Dream a campaign designed to foster racial reconciliation in our nation. It encouraged courageous conversations about racial equality and reflection on the Bible-inspired actions of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The campaign launched to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s death.

You prayed, and God answered. The campaign, which included a
10-week Scripture journey, a scholarship contest, and three city-centered gatherings, produced praiseworthy results!

  • 200 people completed the 10-week Scripture journey
  • 650 people from 45 churches attended the Reviving the Dream events in New York, Charlotte, and Phoenix
  • $24,000 in scholarships were awarded to high school juniors and seniors across the country

One pastor who attended the
Reviving the Dream gathering in Phoenix said, “God used you to bring brothers and sisters in Christ together to remember the ultimate sacrifice that Dr. King made … preaching, teaching, and living the Holy Scriptures on love, justice, peace, unity, equality, nonviolence, and sacrifice. Thank you for your prophetic leadership as we prayed, planned, and participated together as never before—from all races, classes, generations, denominations, and non-denominations.”

Continuing the Conversation

This fall, churches will host multi-racial Bible study groups using a guide called
Loving the Neighbor Who Doesn’t Look Like You. Church leaders and pastors will take participants through five discussions around the subject of racial healing. The study is designed to bring people of different races together to apply Scripture to their diverse life experiences. We are praying this resource will demonstrate God’s power to bring about true healing through his Word.

Prayer of Thanks

God, we thank you for your Word that inspired Dr. King 50 years ago and continues to inspire us today. We pray that as churches address racial reconciliation, your healing love will flow and racial divides will be destroyed. We pray for justice and righteousness as described in Amos 5:24:

“Instead, let justice flow like a stream, and righteousness like a river that never goes dry.”
