Last year, despite lockdown restrictions, economic challenges, and emotional suffering—150 Bible Societies operating in more than 240 countries and territories around the world, distributed more than 190 million Scripture resources. Praise God! People were able to experience the peace and comfort found in Scripture in a time when it was needed.

These Bible Societies went to extraordinary lengths to distribute God’s Word. Here are some of the incredible and innovative things they did:

  • The Bible Society of Moldova was forced to temporarily close their office, bookshop, and warehouse to help limit the spread of COVID-19. But they started a mobile Bible bookshop, travelling throughout the country when it was safe to do so, delivering Bibles and Scripture materials.
  • Bible Society of Costa Rica made God’s Word available through digital platforms. Using social media, they provided clear instructions for purchasing Bibles online and offered the tools necessary to read the Bible in order to bring comfort during times of suffering and uncertainty.
  • Peruvian Bible Society’s longest running ministry program “Pan de Vida” or “Bread of Life” was used to supplying more than 6,000 children in poor areas with both Scripture and food. The pandemic brought that program to a halt. But the team was able to obtain the necessary permits to begin delivering help directly to the children’s homes.

American Bible Society—A Year of Impact

Although 2020 posed challenges and difficulties we never could’ve anticipated, our God is faithful. It is through his unending grace and your prayers that American Bible Society continued to bring hope through God’s Word. Here are what your prayers enabled us to achieve in collaboration with our partners in 2020:

  • The first sign language Bible in the world was released—American Sign Language Version
  • 700 languages have the full Bible as of July 2020
  • 91 countries received support for critical Bible relief ministries during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • 500,000 U.S. families received Bible-based trauma healing resources during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • 1 million Scripture resources placed in the hands and hearts of the Military
