Like most people in his homeland of Ghana, George has little to call his own. But he has one treasured possession that is priceless … his Bible.
Growing up, George never imagined having something that would give him so much comfort and hope. An orphan, “I struggled to survive,” he remembers. “I felt dejected in life.” George says he even regretted being born.
Ghana is one of the most poverty-stricken places in the world, with nearly half of the population struggling to survive on less than $1.25 a day. Like so many others in this nation, life wasn’t easy for George. As he grew older, his pain developed into bad habits and social vices.
Then American Bible Society workers visited his village with Bibles, and George received his very first Bible!
“I could read the Word of God in my own language,” George says. The truths and hope of Scripture transformed his life!
“I no longer drink, chase women, and indulge in pagan sacrifices,” he explains. “I see God closer to me through his Word. It is a ready guide to my walk with God. I am happy that people somewhere had me in mind to offer me such a precious gift.”
The generosity of financial partners helps people like George grow in the hope and purpose for life that God’s Word offers.
