“I BECAME A NEW CHRISTIAN.”

In Tumbalá, a small mountain village in the southern tip of Mexico, people from the community gathered recently to watch the JESUS Film. As the story of Jesus’s life flickered through the darkness in his native Chol language, Emilio’s* heart was changed.

Afterward, thanks to friends like you, Emilio was given his first Bible, translated into his heart language. He humbly expressed his gratitude, though he noted, “I don’t know how to read very well.”

Even so, Emilio immediately began to study the passages he could understand, and he soon recognized that the words of Scripture were truth. He began attending a local church with his family and committed his life to Jesus. “I became a new Christian,” he joyfully declares.

Since roughly 60 percent of indigenous communities do not read or write in the languages they speak, the audio Bibles you help provide are giving them access they wouldn’t otherwise have to the Word of God. Emilio was thrilled to receive one of the audio Bibles. He and his family often gather to listen and follow along in the printed Bible. He explains, “The Bible in our Chol language helps us understand God’s Word.”
