You are the people of God; he loved you and chose you for his own. So then, you must clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Colossians 3:12 GNT
In this seventh episode of the Letters from Paul series from American Bible Society, you’ll explore Colossians 3:12-17.
Paul was writing to the Colossians, who made up a church community he had never visited in the city of Colossae (discover an overview of the book of Colossians here). However, Paul can encourage the Colossians through their shared identity as the body of Jesus Christ.
In this passage, Paul reminds the Colossians that, as God’s holy people, they must put on new clothes like compassion, kindness, and patience. He challenges them to forgive one another as God forgave them and encourages them to view Christ’s love as the tie that binds them all together in unity. Finally, he points them to the promise of the peace Jesus will provide us when we seek to follow his commandments.
Watch and be inspired by Paul’s description of how Christ’s message of love transforms our hearts and lives.
