In this episode of “Liana’s Favorite Books,” Dr. Liana Lupas takes you on a tour of a Chinese New Testament once gifted to China’s last emperor, Puyi.

Similar to a previous New Testament presented to Puyi’s predecessor, the Empress Dowager, this copy has an ornate silver cover. It was part of a set of four presentation New Testaments printed by British and Foreign Bible Society and carried across China by Chinese Christians. The presentation copies were accepted by an official on behalf of the imperial family in 1909.

While the Empress Dowager’s original New Testament and Emperor Puyi’s additional three presentation copies are lost to history, this New Testament has been part of American Bible Society’s Scripture library since 1944.

We hope you enjoy exploring this rare Bible treasure from history with Dr. Liana Lupas!
