In this new episode of “Liana’s Favorite Books,” Dr. Liana Lupas shows off what bibliophiles refer to as an incunabulum. That’s a Latin word referring to the rarest of printed books—those produced during the infancy of the printing press (1455–1500).
The precious book in question, which Dr. Lupas says she wants to wrap in a blanket and place in a cradle, is a Latin Bible printed in Venice, Italy in the year 1476. This Bible was printed at a time when the printing press was spreading like wildfire throughout Europe. Donated to American Bible Society in 1821, it also happens to be one of the very first historic Bibles acquired by the organization.
