Johnny* had never felt so alone.
The 51-year-old from the Dominican Republic was used to being around people. Whenever he drank, gambled, and smoked, he was always in a crowd eager to party. But when he got sick and went into the hospital for surgery, everyone left him.
“My friends deserted me in the hospital,” Johnny explains. “It was a desperate time in the hospital alone and with no support from anyone. It felt awful. I felt completely betrayed.”
When Johnny got out of the hospital, he joined an audio Bible listening group. That’s when he started to turn his life around.
“It felt great to listen to the Word of God,” he says. “It was the way for me. From there, I knew Jesus as my Savior.”
Johnny learned that Jesus Christ would never leave or abandon him. “Yes, I am safe in Christ and I will see Him face to face one day. There is a place prepared for me.”
Thanks to the support of financial partners, Johnny also received his very own Bible in his native Haitian Creole language!
“This Bible is a golden jewel to me, as I did not even have a Bible in my language before this experience,” he says. “Reading the Bible has changed my life.”
May God bless our generous friends for their help in providing the people of the Dominican Republic and Haiti with audio Scripture and Bibles in their own heart language. The speakers of Haitian Creole number about 10-12 million people worldwide.
