President Roy Peterson penned a short piece for the Christian Post about the State of California prohibiting student groups on its university campuses from requiring that group leaders profess certain beliefs—so no faith-based organization can require its own leaders to adhere to its founding commitments. The policy is designed to provide equal opportunity and ensure freedom of expression for students, but it actually inhibits freedom of expression by denying these groups the ability to organize themselves according to their beliefs.

The policy is potentially devastating for faith-based groups and is particularly threatening to the mission of campus ministries including Young Life College, Cru, and InterVarsity, which are amazingly effective in connecting young people with the hope and direction of the Bible during the critical formative season of college. Let us pray together that the university Chancellor will modify this policy.
