May your world never crash down around you the way Hannah’s* did.
Hannah’s husband and son died, leaving her as a widowed mother of five. Life was already difficult in her native Angola, where four out of 10 people live in poverty. As a widow, it must have seemed unbearable.
“It shook me a lot, and I no longer had the strength and courage to take care of myself. I was depressed for a long time,” she says. Imagine how alone Hannah must have felt.
“I did not know Christ,” the 71-year-old widow explains.
Seeing her struggles, a friend invited Hannah to the local church. “There, I met Jesus,” Hannah says. “My life has been transformed. I gained courage, strength, and a desire to continue living because I had children to look after.”
Hannah wanted to learn more about God. And thanks to the generosity of our financial partners, she received a New Testament recently translated into her heart language of Umbundu!
“Only the Word of the Lord has comforted me in these days of my life. The New Testament will help me a lot in sharing the Word of God because I understand and speak fluent Umbundu and the language is easy to understand,” Hannah says.
The Umbundu ethnic group represents about 40 percent of Angola’s population and speaks the most widely used indigenous language in the country. The people struggle from poverty and civil war. Plus, they now face the additional ramifications of a severe drought that is causing food shortages and rising hunger. The people need the hope of Scripture.
